Why I'm having a rant...

So here it is!  My first entry on my 'Ranting Nat' blog.  Some of you may be wondering what this is all about so I'll take a short while to explain.
"In the world of Social Media there is no right or wrong, but there is good practice & bad practice" Nat Reynolds - Social Media Coach

Something you'll hear me say often on many of the Social Media presentations and workshops I've done over the passed few years.  Some may think it's a get out clause but it's not.  Although Social Media has been around for quite a while now there is no ultimate SOCIAL MEDIA RULE BOOK.

A lot of what is out there in the Social Media world is subjective, based on opinions and thoughts or worse case scenario, someone trying to make a quick buck out of your lack of knowledge on the subject.  A lot of Social Media is trial and error, in fact, most marketing tactics is too but isn't it best to approach it from a good practice point of view?

Here are some things to think about it you're taking on Social Media for your business:
  1. What do you want to achieve?
  2. What will you need to do to achieve that?
  3. Is the answer to 1. and 2. realistic?
  4. Do you have the time and resources to implement & manage your social media?
Every person reading this will have a different answer to the next, as every person/ business is different and there is always a limit to time and resources.

How many of you are thinking that Nat is selling herself out of a job?  I'm not, as those that have heard me speak about social media, I explain what you should do and always try my best to give you a reason as to WHY you should do it.  This is the GOOD PRACTICE bit that I mentioned at the beginning.

So what's next?  To follow this will be a series of blog entries of me having a rant about the bad practice that I see across Social Media.  I'll give you the reasons why you shouldn't do it, hopefully a bit of good practice to counteract it and some top tips along the way too!

I've already been asked a question which will be addressed in my next blog entry:

I can't promise that it'll rock your world but I can promise that it will open your eyes to Social Media. 2. Good businesslike thoughts Nat. Like everything else there are clod hoppers out there that make you cringe. Others who just don't get it and blunder about and some who add nothing but inanity to the world.
I take a lofty and patronising raised eyebrow to all of these and more, certain in the knowledge that I don't do any of that.(hopefully...haha!)

The world of social media I all about trial and error then learning and improving. I'm trying my best to educate the business community of South Wales one person at a time!
